FGT Travel
Travel through places I know.
Foodie Goes Travel has always begun with first-hand experience — places I live in, return to, eat in, stay in and continue trying to understand.
The Journal records those experiences. Destinations brings together knowledge accumulated over time. FGT Travel is where that knowledge can become useful to someone planning a journey of their own.
Rather than offering a catalogue of destinations or standard itineraries, I want to help travellers make better decisions about where to stay, where to eat, what is worth making time for, and how the different parts of a journey might come together.
FGT Travel begins with places I genuinely know and will expand only where that knowledge and those relationships are strong enough to be useful.
Travel should begin with the person taking it.
Some travellers need the right place to stay. Others already have their hotel but want to understand where to eat, which experiences are genuinely worth their time, or how much to plan into a few days.
FGT Travel begins by understanding how you like to travel, what matters to you and where I can genuinely add something useful.
That might mean finding a villa, recommending a restaurant, arranging a particular experience or helping shape several days into a coherent journey.
And sometimes the best decision is to leave part of the trip unplanned.
WHERE FGT TRAVEL BEGINS
FGT Travel begins with places where my knowledge has developed over time — through living there, returning repeatedly, eating, staying, working, meeting people and continuing to observe how the place changes.
That relationship is different in each destination, so what FGT can offer will be different too.
UMBRIA
Umbria is where I live and where much of Foodie Goes Travel has taken shape. It is also the first destination where FGT Travel is developing a more complete approach.
My knowledge of the region comes as much from ordinary life and return visits as it does from deliberate travel — restaurants I go back to, towns seen in different seasons, producers and people I have come to know, and places whose character takes time to understand.
FGT Travel can bring that knowledge together through private stays, food, selected local experiences, practical planning and, where useful, a more complete journey through the region.
BANGKOK
My understanding of Bangkok has developed through return visits and through its restaurants, chefs, hotels and people working within hospitality. Those encounters have often shown me more about the city than a conventional list of sights could.
FGT Travel can help with selected stays, dining, culinary experiences and ways of connecting those experiences into a more considered visit to Bangkok.
KUALA LUMPUR
Kuala Lumpur is different again. It is where I grew up, where much of my understanding of food began, and a city I continue to return to with both familiarity and distance.
FGT Travel draws on that personal history alongside the city I encounter today — its food, neighbourhoods, hotels and changing cultural landscape.
For travellers visiting Malaysia, I can help with stays, restaurants, local context and experiences shaped by lived knowledge rather than a visitor checklist.
HOW FGT TRAVEL CAN HELP
The service is still being developed, but enquiries can currently begin around four areas.
STAY
Hotels, villas and independent properties chosen according to the journey rather than from a fixed inventory. The right stay might be about location, architecture, privacy, service, food or simply how well it allows you to experience the place around it.
EAT
Food is often one of the clearest ways into a place. Recommendations may range from a restaurant worth planning a day around to a simple local address, a chef, producer or particular dish that adds context to where you are.
Where useful, FGT can also assist with reservations and the practical planning around them.
EXPERIENCE
Selected experiences connected to the destination — food, wine, culture, design, landscape or people — chosen because they add something to the journey rather than simply fill the day.
TRAVEL DESIGN
For travellers who want more support, FGT can bring accommodation, food, experiences, transport and time together into a journey shaped around your interests and preferred pace.
The objective is not to schedule every hour, but to make the important decisions well.
HOW MUCH HELP WOULD YOU LIKE?
FGT Travel does not need to mean handing over your entire holiday.
You may only need help with one part of it.
A place to stay
Help identifying a suitable villa, hotel or independent property.
Stay + local guidance
Accommodation together with personal recommendations for food, places and practical planning.
Stay + selected experiences
Accommodation with a small number of experiences or arrangements added around it.
Full trip design
A more involved journey shaped around your group, interests, pace and available time.
Why come through FGT?
The same way of looking at places that shapes the Journal also shapes FGT Travel.
I should be able to tell you why I think something is worth your time — not simply that it is popular, luxurious or frequently recommended.
A hotel may be right because of how it relates to its setting. A restaurant may matter because its food tells you something about the region. An experience may be worthwhile because of the person behind it.
Recommendations therefore begin with first-hand knowledge, continued observation and relationships developed over time.
FGT Travel will grow in the same way as the Journal: not by covering as many places as possible, but by going further into the places I already know.
Tell me about your trip
If you are planning a journey to Umbria, Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur, tell me what you have in mind.
You may already know exactly what you need, or you may simply have a destination and some dates. The enquiry helps me understand how you travel and whether FGT can add something useful.
There is no obligation to proceed with anything after submitting the form.
A note on bookings and editorial independence
FGT Travel and the editorial work of Foodie Goes Travel are connected by knowledge, but they remain distinct.
Hotels, villas, restaurants and experiences may have commercial or referral relationships with FGT Travel. Where relevant, these relationships will be disclosed.
A commercial relationship does not guarantee editorial coverage, and editorial coverage does not imply a commercial relationship.
Accommodation and other services may also be booked directly with the hotel, property owner or local provider and remain subject to their own rates, availability and terms.
Stories shaped by the art of noticing.
